I. All Hail Nicholas Varney! He put a spell on me…

Nicholas Varney 12,450 bergdorf Goodman

dscn0692_1-01I first saw this ring in a Harper’s Bazaar last year and I knew I was in love. This is the only ring I would accept in a wedding proposal. Nicholas Varney makes his jewelry look so organic, naturally beautiful, Bling is dead. I Love it.I praise the understatement, the silent grace and natural shine. When someone can make a ring that can be worn like a Ring Pop to the grocery store with a fur coat, sneakers and a head sweatband and not have anyone supecting its more than a cracker jack ring, when in reality its over 12,000 dollars? That’s just Nucking Futs! Looking at it makes my mouth water and my heart melt a little.

II. Let’s Talk Origami!

LadyGagaThierry Mugler

At the close of 2008 and early this year one of my strongest inklings started. They were of origami like, puzzle- like pattern made clothing  so I want to back up and do a compare and contrast. When I first saw Lady GaGa’s Origami Dress my mouth dropped at the similarity. And winced at the execution of the dress… it doesn’t fit her body type(and what is with the shoes).  I read at the time that it was her own design, which was really hard for me to believe. I had never predicted… pop star designed clothing.

Today I google-d the dress to get a picture for this here blog, and found a side by side comparison of Lady GaGa’s dress to designer Thierry Mugler’s dress. That’s more like it. I like it on the model. Thierry’s makes sense.

I really didn’t think I would see Origami dresses on the runway… but then again I never think I’ll see my inklings come to fruitation in someone else’s line either so… here are my sketches. Enjoy!
